Southville Area Guide
Letting in Southville - Area Guide
Southville and Bedminster are two of the most central districts of the city of Bristol. Both provide a broad range of property types that will suit most needs and what is available to locals is very convenient.
It’s just a 10 minute walk away from the city centre and a 20 minute walk from Bristol Temple Meads train station. There are regular bus routes through the area that take you into the city or out to the south of Bristol and a train station that can connect you to the rest of the UK. This makes the area ideal for people who need to commute easily in and out of Bristol. The proximity to the A38 provides a quick route to places south of Bristol such as Bristol Airport, Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare
The area has a strong community feel with lots on offer for local people. This started over twenty years ago with the formation of the Southville Community Development Association. The Association manages the Southville Centre in Beauley Road with a range of facilities including rooms for hire for community uses, a licensed café and a nursery. The Centre also offers a wide range of adult classes and out of school activities for children from reception age to year 6.
In 2012 a successful bid was made to the government’s retail initiative led by Mary Portas was an important step forward. A wide range of projects are now underway to improve the high street and promote a wide range of artistic and cultural events including street theatre.
Southville is home to the Tobacco Factory, owned by the Mayor of Bristol, George Ferguson. It is best known for the award winning theatre but there are also regular music nights and a café offering Mediterranean food. The bar attached to the theatre is great place to meet and there is a dance studio and workspace for creative small businesses.
Bedminster has a 24 hour ASDA store and East street right at its centre giving locals a close option for shopping. There’s also one of only two city farms in Bedminster which is open to the public and regularly receives groups of students from primary schools.
SOUTHVILLE CAFE CULTURE
There is a growing café culture with many different and unique places to eat and drink such as the Thali café, Zazu’s kitchen and the Southville Deli offering organic and wholefoods plus the diversity of local shops and restaurants in North Street. Southville and Bedminster have a vibrant mix of people and lifestyles and anyone moving here would definitely not run short of ways to entertain themselves!
